Grass Lake Downtown Development Authority (DDA) offers Retail Business Grants to encourage new retail business development in the downtown district. These grants are designed to help entrepreneurs launch their businesses and strengthen the economic vitality of Grass Lake.
What We Offer
Startup assistance: Funding support for businesses in their first six months of operation within the DDA District.
Interior build-out and equipment: Support for furniture, fixtures, technology, and point-of-sale systems.
Signage, branding, and marketing: Assistance with storefront signage, marketing campaigns, and promotional efforts.
Initial inventory: Funds to help stock new businesses and support early sales.
Flexible use of funds: Recipients may apply grant dollars to a wide range of startup needs without category restrictions.
Eligibility
Business must be newly established and located within the DDA District.
Applications must be submitted within six months of opening.
Proof of business establishment is required (registration, EIN, or license, if applicable).
Grant Limits
Maximum award: $5,000.
One-time grant: Funds are awarded as a single payment upon approval.
No matching funds are required for this program.
Grass Lake Downtown Development Authority (DDA) offers Revitalization Grants to support property improvements that enhance the downtown district’s appearance, safety, and economic viability. These grants are designed to help property owners and businesses invest in building upgrades that contribute to a vibrant and thriving downtown.
What We Offer
Façade and structural improvements: Funding for exterior renovations, historical restorations, and structural enhancements.
Building system upgrades: Assistance with electrical, plumbing, and HVAC improvements that meet modern standards.
Accessibility and safety enhancements: Support for ADA compliance, exterior lighting, and other safety measures.
Eligibility
Properties must be located within the DDA District.
Both property owners and tenants (with owner approval) may apply.
All property taxes must be paid in full at the time of application.
Tax-paying properties receive priority consideration.
Grant Limits and Matching Funds
Maximum award: $20,000 per year.
Five-year cap: $30,000 per property.
New retail businesses: Eligible for an additional $5,000, bringing the total to $35,000 within five years.
A 1:1 match is required, meaning applicants must contribute at least 50% of the project cost. Exceptions may apply for projects that significantly benefit the downtown district (e.g., safety or historic preservation).
